San Francisco-based Viz.ai is using artificial intelligence to detect diseases and speed up care to treat stroke patients, Forbes reported Jan. 3.

Viz.ai’s software cross-references CT images of a patient’s brain with a database of scans to find early stages of large vessel occlusion strokes. It then alerts physicians, who can gain access to the scans on their phones, cutting down time needed to get a patient into surgery, according to Forbes.

The company has signed more than 900 hospitals including Cleveland Clinic, New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System and Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger. Viz.ai is also approved by Medicare.

The company is looking to expand its efforts by using AI to improve patient’s quality of care; it intends to move from strokes to pulmonary embolisms and aortic dissections.
